About KMWP
Mental health support built by students, for students
The Keystone Mental Wellness Project is a student led nonprofit making mental health easier to talk about. We bring honest education and peer support into schools, shaped by students who understand and guided by professionals who keep it safe.
What we do
Education in schools
Honest, student built lessons and assemblies on anxiety, depression, and how to get help.
Peer support
A student to student starting point that makes reaching out feel a lot less daunting.
Backed by professionals
Psychologists, physicians, and educators keep every message safe and accurate.
Our story
It started in our own hallways
In 2024, two high school students kept noticing the same thing. Friends and classmates were quietly struggling. Stress, anxiety, low days that nobody talked about. The help was out there, but it often felt far away, confusing, or like something other people needed permission to ask for.
Jack Burns and Anthony Liu started The Keystone Mental Wellness Project to close that gap. Not as experts looking down, but as peers sitting next to you. The idea was simple. Bring honest, accurate mental health conversations into schools, and make sure no student has to figure it out alone.
Since then, KMWP has reached more than 200 students and built a team of professional advisors who keep our work grounded and safe. We are just getting started.
Why peer led matters
Sometimes it is easier to hear it from someone your own age
A lot of students never bring up how they are doing because it feels awkward, or like a big deal, or like they would be bothering an adult. When the person talking has sat in the same classes and felt the same pressure, the wall comes down a little.
That is the heart of peer led work. We do not diagnose, and we do not pretend to be counselors. What we do is make mental health normal to talk about, share what we have learned, and walk classmates to the right door when they need more than a conversation.
Lower the wall
Peer voices make it feel safer to speak up.
Meet students where they are
In classrooms, assemblies, and everyday language.
Backed by professionals
Advisors keep every message accurate and safe.
What guides us
Our values
Mental wellbeing is a right
Support should not depend on where you live, what your family can afford, or whether you already know the right words. We work to make care and information reach every student.
Peers first
Students listen to students. We lead with our own experience and lived perspective, then bring in professionals to keep everything accurate and safe.
Safe and accurate
We never replace professional care. Every program is reviewed by advisors, uses safe messaging language, and always points to real help, including the 988 line.
Hope you can act on
We talk about hard things plainly and honestly, and we always pair them with a next step. No fear, no shame, just a path forward.
Who is behind KMWP
